Lawrence County, Alabama is centrally located between Birmingham, Alabama; Nashville, Tennessee; Memphis, Tennessee; and Atlanta, Georgia. The county is bordered on the north by the Tennessee River, providing an integral connection to ports along the Tennessee River and the Tennessee-Tombigbee waterway. It is bordered on the south by the William B. Bankhead National Forest, which includes the Sipsey Wilderness Area.

Lawrence County is part of the Decatur MSA and we are located between two metropolitan statistical areas (Decatur MSA and Florence-Muscle Shoals MSA). The county’s workforce comes from nine counties in North Alabama, including Morgan, Madison and Lauderdale. The county’s central location also provides an abundance of educational opportunities, being in close proximity to 11 higher education institutes, including the University of North Alabama and the University of Alabama at Huntsville.
